McGill Food Security Summit

Location: SSMU building, room 203

The Food Security Summit aims to gather the McGill community (with insight from Concordia if available) to discuss the collective vision of McGill‘s food system. This event offers a platform for dialogue on how to create a food system on campus that is both affordable and sustainable. As representatives of various food-related groups, we have the opportunity to shape a new food system informed by our research and experiences, with the aim of making socially and environmentally responsible food choices more accessible on campus. Given the high cost of food and the presence of food insecurity amongst students, the summit aims to bring all relevant actors to the table to form stronger partnerships. The summit will begin with a presentation outlining the current and historical context of McGill’s food system, drawing on research and collected data by multiple groups. This will be followed by interactive sessions where participants can envision future goals and discuss the potential formation of a food coalition at McGill. We invite you to join us in advocating for a just food system that benefits everyone involved, from producers to the table.

Agenda: Friday, March 15th from 10am-2:30pm

10:00-10:30am: Opening Presentation on Research on McGill’s food system

10:30-12:00pm: Visioning exercises, and groups discussions about larger food system – Moderated activity

12:00-1:00pm: Lunch Serving

1:00-2:30pm: Interaction between groups, networking for food actors on campus.
