Research Assistant: Studying Community-led Agri-food hub
We are looking for an undergraduate graduate research assistant who has experience in studying
community-led initiatives. An ideal candidate will be a Bachelors student in Geography/Urban Studies or
related discipline with experience or expertise working on community-led development interventions,
as well as experience or strong interest in Indigenous community engagement.
The paid assistantship will be for 10 hours/week for 10 weeks starting in April.
Reporting to Dr. Govind Gopakumar, the candidate will be responsible for carrying out research tasksrelated to project Partnership with Indigenous Community to Develop a Sustainable and Sovereign Agri-Food Hub in Kahnawake in collaboration with Indigenous-led collective Tka:nios.
The RA should be able to assist the project team in the following tasks :
- Participate in training and complete discovery tasks linked to the history and contemporary
reality of the land and peoples of Kahnawake - Conduct a background study of community-led agri-food hubs based on secondary literature
and media sources, looking both at community-led hubs that share Quebec climate conditions
and Indigenous-led hubs across the world. - Develop a categorisation of community-led agri-food hubs that will consider the technological,
organizational and social/cultural dimensions. - Catalogue the challenges faced by community groups in developing and maintaining agri-food
hubs, as well as best practices.

The Food Group Development Program is designed to support campus-community food organizations to form a resilient food system at Concordia and beyond. We’re here to help you incubate new food projects (Seed), expand existing organizations (Grow) and help struggling groups strategically troubleshoot challenges (Revitalize).

Our office is located in the Z Annex, along with Sustainable Concordia and the Sustainability Action Fund @ 2090 Mackay (Montreal, Quebec, H3G 2J1). Please note our offices are not wheelchair accessible. We are located on the second floor of the Z-Annex up two flights of stairs.
